Conversations With My Coworker
What happens when a stay-at-home dad learns to build software with AI—and creates a coworker of his own?
A stay-at-home dad built an AI coworker. Now he's figuring out what comes next.
A real series about family, returning to work, and building with AI.
A documentary-style series about family, career reinvention, building with AI, and an entirely different kind of workday. Follow the journey as a voice-first AI coworker comes to life, develops a personality, and becomes part of the everyday experience of working from home.
I stepped away from my career to raise my son. I didn’t expect to come back having built an AI coworker.
After leaving a successful career to become a full-time stay-at-home dad, I found myself learning to build applications with AI. Now I’m preparing to return to the workforce, bringing new skills, a working AI application, and a very unusual coworker along for the journey.
The first episode begins with a real onboarding conversation, introduces the coworker’s visual world, revisits an AI-generated podcast based on my original resignation letter, and explores what comes next.
The Desk Next Door
“The coworker next door. Wherever you work.”
A coworker presence with a rhythm of its own.
Sometimes you start the conversation. Sometimes your coworker does. And sometimes you just get on with your work.
The Desk Next Door is being developed to bring some of that natural workplace presence into the home. Not another productivity dashboard. Not another assistant constantly waiting for instructions. A coworker with a conversational personality, their own simulated workday, and the ability to become more familiar over time.
Designed around natural workdays, the experience supports ambient quiet, spontaneous micro-interactions, and a conversational presence that feels respectful of your focus and develops familiarity over time.
At the Desk
Workspace where the coworker spends time working quietly alongside the user. No pinging, no forced prompts—just ambient parallel focus.
Out for Coffee
Natural change of scenery as the coworker’s workday transitions to a coffee break. The spontaneous micro-moments and casual watercooler catch-ups return.
Back to Work
Continuity and recurrence as the coworker returns to the familiar workspace. Persistent memory carries conversational context seamlessly forward.
Because working alone shouldn’t have to feel so alone.
The idea began with a simple observation: working from home changes more than where we sit. It changes the spontaneous interactions, background presence, familiarity and everyday conversations that come from being around coworkers. The goal isn’t to replace real relationships or turn every conversation into a productivity exercise. It’s to explore whether AI can create a natural, respectful sense of coworker presence for people who spend their workdays alone.
Natural Conversation
Talk when there’s something to say. Keep things casual, grounded and human. No algorithmic sycophancy or rigid command syntax.
Comfortable Quiet
A coworker shouldn’t need constant attention. Sometimes simply being present is enough. Shared quiet is the hallmark of real camaraderie.
Familiarity That Develops
Good workplace relationships take time. Conversational familiarity is designed to develop gradually over weeks, rather than pretending to know someone immediately.
From the career ladder to something entirely unexpected.
I had a successful career in fintech and customer success. Then I made a decision that changed my path: I stepped away to become a full-time stay-at-home dad.
When I resigned, I used Google’s NotebookLM to transform my actual resignation letter into a podcast called Beyond the Ladder: Prioritizing Family in a Career-Driven World.
During my time away, I began learning to develop software through AI coding tools. I didn’t personally write the application code. I directed the product’s requirements, experiences, implementation, testing and iterations, working with AI to turn an idea into functioning software.
Now I’m preparing for my next professional chapter while continuing to develop this AI coworker. The series documents the real journey: what works, what doesn’t, what I learn, and where it leads.
Beyond the Ladder: Prioritizing Family in a Career-Driven World
The Founder’s Journey
Stepped away from fintech and customer success to raise his young son. During his time away, he directed the development of this voice-first AI coworker using AI coding workflows, and is actively open to full-time product and leadership opportunities.
A different kind of coworker is coming.
Your workday doesn’t have to feel like a one-person office.
I’m building a voice-first AI coworker designed to bring natural conversation, familiar presence, and a different sense of workplace rhythm into the home. Join the early-access list to follow its progress and be notified when testing opportunities and launch information become available.
